Ten little things
you can do to make a
BIG DIFFERENCE!

Here are some practical real estate ideas on how to get your home ready to sell!  With a little effort, your home can be sold quickly and profitably!

1. First impressions count!

  • Make sure your front entrance is clean and inviting.
  • Paint your front door (if it shows signs of wear).
  • Keep lawn trimmed.
  • Remove leaves, snow, and ice from driveway and walks.

2. Decorate for a quick sale!

  • Replace faded wallpaper, avoiding highly patterned covering  whenever possible.
  • Remove excess clutter
  • Repair worn woodwork.
  • Paint a NEUTRAL color over walls that look old.
  • Wash all windows.
  • DUST, DUST, DUST!

3. Let the sun shine in!

  • Open draperies and curtains.  Show how cheerful your home can be.
  • Be sure curtains and drapes are freshly cleaned.
  • Dark rooms have no appeal and look smaller.
  • Turn on all lights during evening showings.
  • Remove excess furniture!
  • Arrange rooms neatly.

4. Kitchen must be spotless!

  • Clean oven and stove top.
  • Unclutter counters and organize the pantry.
  • Wipe down cabinets.
  • Stow away unnecessary objects.
  • Wash all dishes!  Load and run the dishwasher.

5. Simple repairs go a long way!

  • What may be a minor problem to you may seem like a major defect to a buyer.
  • Repair loose knobs, sticking doors and windows, warped cabinet drawers, broken light switches, and other minor flaws.  These defects detract from the value of your home.
  • Remember: When buyers see things that need attention, they begin to worry about what they can't see and therefore discount the price of your home.
  • Neat closets show that space is ample and make them look larger.

6. Organize from top to bottom!

  • Remove all unnecessary articles from your attic, basement, and closets.  Spacious rooms are a great selling feature.
  • If necessary, consider having a garage sale to dispose of unwanted    items, or investigate public storage options.

7. Safety first!  (avoid all possible injuries)

  • Keep stairways clear and avoid a cluttered appearance.
  • Don't overload wall plugs.

8. Make your home sparkle!

  • Steam clean your carpets.
  • Reglue any peeling wallpaper.
  • Empty ashtrays and throw out the trash.
  • Cleanliness counts!  People link 'clean' with 'well-maintained'.
  • Don't cause controversy! Remove any signs posters that might be controversial to a buyer.

9. It's a fact!  (Bathrooms help sell homes!)

  • Repair/Replacde dripping or worn faucets.
  • Check and repair caulking in bathrubs and showers.
  • Display fresh, clean towels and make the room attractive.
  • Spray a light fragrance and make the room pleasant smelling.
  • Remove mildew.
