Home to the Latonia Racetrack between 1880-1930, Latonia was named after a nearby spring and antebellum spa. The historic commercial center, known as Ritte's Corner, is a National Register Historic District. New residential construction in Latonia continued as late as the mid-1940s and the residential area is a pleasing mixture of quaint cottages, bugalows and larger Victorian homes which reflect its growth periods. Homes similar in character to the once popular Sears mail order houses can be found here. Also in Latonia are two shopping centers which contain a variety of banks, shops and markets.
